Swept Away

Life is either a daring adventure

or nothing at all.

-Swept Away by Sarah Morton

I don’t even know how to explain it, but the Creator was definitely involved in connecting me with a wild stallion I call “Semper Fi”. Only He could orchestrate such a phenomenon to take place.

My good friend and I were out searching for and finding wild horses up in Wyoming, looking for horses to photograph for references for my horses paintings. We had driven for a few miles and hours through the dust and sage with numerous encounters of beautiful horses.

As we traveled along, we came up a steep hill where we knew there was a water hole where the horses and cattle come periodically through the day. I expected to see a few wild horses, but my eyes were astounded to see a majestic white stallion with the high noon sun beaming down on his wind blown mane.

My first thought was,”He looks like the white horse Jesus will be riding when he comes back in the clouds!” I was so swept away by the sight of him that I forgot to grab my camera. All I could do was watch him shake his glowing mane as he pranced to his mares. He gave them his command, and they were gone like a lightning storm in a cloud of dust.

And I had no pictures.

I watched them run into the valley, and I knew I had to find him again. Later that day, I named him “Semper Fi” in honor of my husband Troy, who is a Marine Corps Veteran of Desert Storm, and also for the horse upon which Jesus rides, who must always be faithful for the call.

We need let ourselves get swept away and experience adventures more often. It is good for our souls and makes life worth the effort.
